The whole process begins with knowing what you want. This is perhaps the most critical part of how to build a garage from start to finish. From utility, to lofts, to dormers, apartments, compacts, wides, storage, car, truck, attic, so on, and so on. You may already have a good idea of what you want, but garage designs with different looks and styles that will help you narrow down and pinpoint the one that’s right for you.

Get a Plan...

Once you’ve decided on the type of garage you want, the next step is getting a plan together. Professionals who know how to build a garage will agree that any garage building plan should at the least include blueprints, neighborhood covenant codes, zoning information, permit(s), contractor bids, materials, drainage issues, sloping issues, cost, and more. Maybe you want to put the whole plan together yourself, or maybe you want someone to do it all for you. Maybe you want to do some of it yourself, then hire out the rest. It all depends on you, your skill level, your budget, and your willingness to follow through.

Blueprints...

Simply put, the blueprints reveal how to build a garage, and if they’re not sound, then the garage won’t be either. You can make your own blueprints using garage design software, have them custom drawn for you, or select from a number of pre-drawn garage designs. Whichever way you decide to go, the rest of the project will entirely depend on it, so make sure the blueprints are accurate and they address everything necessary.
